Karisoke Research Center (on-going since 1967)

Research Objectives: long-term behavioral data collection, poaching trends, and demographics Field Positions and Volunteers: Two assistantships, one research and one administrative requiring a minimum one-year commitment and potentially renewable after one year. Species Studied: Gorilla beringei beringei (mountain gorilla) Other Species at Site: Cercopithecus kandti (golden monkey) Comments: The Karisoke Research Center was destroyed during recent wars Rwanda. Though constrained by security measures, the project is currently located in Ruhengeri town, and field activities continue in the Volcanoes National Park with the long-term study and conservation of the mountain gorilla.
