Israeli Primate Sanctuary (Established 1995)

Mission: The Israeli primate sanctuary's aims are: 1) provide an immediate shelter for primates that are confiscated by the authorities;or brought in by their owners or released from labs 2) find permanent housing for these animals in parks or sanctuaries , in Israel or abroad; and 3) increase public awareness of the problem of illegal possession of primates Principal Research Programs: birth control programs in little farms/zoos which keep and breed monkeys in order to prevent surplus monkeys from entering the pet black market Number of Staff: 7 Supported Species: 5 Cebus apella (tufted capuchin), 1 Cebus olivaceus (wedge-capped capuchin), 1 Cercocebus torquatus (white-collared mangabey), 12 Chlorocebus aethiops (grivet), 12 Macaca mulatta (rhesus macaque), 45 Macaca fascicularis (long-tailed macaque), 3 Nycticebus pygmaeus (lesser slow loris), 2 Papio hamadryas (hamadryas baboon), 7 Papio cynocephalus (yellow baboon) Last Updated: 2006-07-27 [Edit Entry] [Delete Entry] [Search IDP] |
