Mission: In order to promote global diversity and sustainable land use, Community Conservation, Inc. catalyzes, facilitates and empowers local people to manage and conserve natural resources within the social, cultural and economic context of their communities.

Principal Research Programs: Behavior and ecology of the black howler monkey (Alouatta pigra); Reintroduction of howler monkeys to other parts of Belize; Biological diversity assessments of program areas; Studies of forest succession following slash and burn agricultures; Studies of the useful plants of the rainforest. Conservation of mantled howler monkeys in Nicaragua; Conservation of the golden langur (Trachypithecus geei) and other primates and wildlife in Assam and the northeastern states of India. Conservation of squirrel monkeys, spider monkeys, capuchins and howlers in Costa Rica

Training Opportunities: Educational opportunities available for: Undergraduate, Graduate; Field work opportunities available on occasion; Program emphasis: Social behavior; Ecology; Community conservation; Note: Work with serious volunteers/interns on community-based sanctuary projects.
