Mission: To empower individuals to foster relationships with the people, the environment and animals that sustain the natural resource base and enable all life to prosper.

Principal Research Programs: JGI's Center for Primate Studies, which carries out analysis and long-term preservation of almost 40 years of data; ChimpanZoo, a research program which studies the behaviors and life histories of captive zoo populations of chimpanzees.

Training Opportunities: ChimpanZoo Program Internship positions are available at the ChimpanZoo office for students who wish to study chimpanzee behavior while taking part in a research project. Only research-oriented university students in the field of primatology need apply. Applications will be judged on the merit of the proposed research project. Opportunities are advertised when available. Volunteer positions for JGI's Environmental Education and Humanitarian Program, Roots and Shoots, are available in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Volunteers work with young Tanzanians to develop environmental and humanitarian programs that benefit their local area. Note: This program is working with youth, not chimpanzees.
