Mission: We provide research opportunities and training for undergraduate students, graduate students, postdoctoral fellows and other professionals on the behavior, socioendocrinology, and captive breeding and husbandry of neotropical primates, primarily marmosets and tamarins. Graduate students and undergraduates can enroll through the Department of Psychology or the Department of Zoology. Opportunities for field research on these and other species may be available depending upon the initiative and success of trainees in obtaining funding and permission to do field research.

Principal Research Programs: Current research focuses on the development and function of vocal communication, visual and chemical communication, social learning, reproductive behavior and endocrinology, pair bond formation and maintenance, social development and parental care skills (including the mechanisms of non-maternal caretakers, and improved husbandry for captive breeding. We collaborate on functional magnetic resonance imaging of brain function.

Financial Aid: Students enrolled at the University of Wisconsin, Madison have access to a variety of support mechanisms for undergraduate research. All graduate students admitted are guaranteed 5 years of support through a variety of fellowships, research and teaching assistantships. Admission of students is limited by available funding.
