Simian Retrovirus Laboratory (Established 1989)
Director: Nicholas W. Lerche
Mission: To provide serological and virological testing of nonhuman primates for exogenous simian retroviruses; To provide epidemiological support services to assist in the establishment and maintenance of nonhuman primate breeding colonies free of specific retrovirus pathogens; To establish and maintain a primate reference serum bank and reagent repository. Principal Research Programs: Development and application of serological and virological methods for diagnosis, control, and eradication of exogenous simian retroviruses in captive primate populations. Training Opportunities: Nonpaid externships in the laboratory by special arrangement. Number of Staff: 6 Comments: The SRL is a research and service laboratory of the California Regional Primate Research Center, School of Veterinary Medicine, University of California, Davis. Partial support of the laboratory is through a grant from NCRR, NIH. Additional support is through fees charged for laboratory services.
