62) Ape species are found in both Africa and Asia. In contrast to the monkeys, apes lack tails, have a more upright posture, and are generally larger than monkeys. They show the other primate traits -- emphasis on vision, very good grasping ability, a complicated social life, and single offspring who take a long time to grow up. Map -- Ape Habitats

Ape species are limited to southeast Asia and the islands of Borneo and Sumatra (the orangutans and lesser apes) and Africa (gorillas and chimpanzees). This text gives the characteristics of apes, as well as reviewing the general primate traits.
